I want to present the classification of support we introduced at DESY with the NetInstall concept. Mr. Poser borrowed this classification from his last visit to argonne national laboratory).
We define a fully controled PC and call it the green PC. It is positioned for the task oriented users. The PC uses only centrally supported application, they are managed and updated centrally. We have the responsibility for that PC
The yellow PC is positioned for the sophisticated users. They get a central application support and install applications by themselves. They configure and maintain their PC. So, we have a partial responsibility concerning the availability of service, correct application installations, ...
The red PC or non-maintained PC does not get any central application support. If you think you need it, OK, but abide by the rules.
