AMANDA DAQ: PC Specifications.
-
PC's for DAQ and Offline
-
PC's used as DAQ host PC's ("pamanda1/2"), for DAQ related work at MAPO
("pamanda3/4") and for offline computing in BOS (the twin "monica/hillary")
are "Industrial 19-inch PCs".
-
Much attention had been put on higly reliable components,
like HDs, PowerSupply, Fans, as well on exchangability of
spare parts between the different PCs.
-
Whenever possible, we went for spec's like >3500m altitude
and <10% rel.humidity with a maximum of cooling reserves,
e.g. by extra fans mounted in the 19" PC-frames
(cooling efficiency falls with pressure!).

New brands for future upgrades
1.
As an example for a possible upgrade in 1999/00 we cite an offer by
Motorla for an 19" Pentium PC, with highly reliable
power supply and Slot-CPU board. Please note certification for
high altitude (4500m), low humidity (5% / 10%) and 100000hrs MTBF.
Price of frame+CPU-board (333MHz) is ~6.400,-DM
(as of summer 1999).
Here are the details on the
PPX770-P10 frame with an
PV5300-266/333 board.
