Notes:
We use one common domain for the two sites Hamburg and Zeuthen. Zeuthen is a small town closed to Berlin. Today we have 1300 users registered for NT and 800 workstation in our domain we saw the last month. About 600 of them are online every day simultaneously.
This diagram shows the growth of our domain since February 1997. The blue line represents the maximum number of workstations being online simultaneously. (The other blue line represent the weekends). The red line shows the data for this year. (You also can see that the German have a lot of holidays).
Due to this growth Windows NT becomes more and more important for the work at DESY. NT is spread over the entire company. The engineers started with special applications, NT became the standard desktop, NT is used in many other areas, e.g. we will get more and more CAD workstations on NT and the administration will work with NT in the near future. NT has become an important factor of the DESY landscape.
When we started investigations into a software distribution concept in September/October of the last year we already had 250 workstations online. When we started deploying our application support this May, we already had 500 PC online.
