- MBone with associated tools heavily used for one-to-many multimedia conferences
- Excellent for public conferences “broadcast” from one source to many locations
- Often MBone doesn’t work well for HEP meetings
- HEP video conferences often need sparse many-to-many network topologies
- Many HEP sites do not support multicast
- Some HEP sites have poor Internet connectivity
- Video conferencing requires ~200Kbps sustained bit rate
- Privacy sometimes an issue
