General

Be sure to read the Read Me First (readme.htm) in the top level directory of the CD-ROM.

These pages were designed for Netscape Navigator 3.02 or Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.02 with a resolution of 1024x768 (minimal 800x600) and 65.536 colors (minimal 256).

In order to access the CD-ROM, you need a Web browser and helper applications. We have provided a list of internet sites where you can find a free browser, software to print postscript files and helper applications for the browser.

We recommend that you use the Internet Software from :

Netscape Navigator 3.02 Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.02

Before navigating in CHEPī97 pages, please adapt the browser window to the displayed HTML page.

Please note! The browser makes copies of files for all helper applications in it's own temporary directory (look at the preferences). Only after closing your browser, all files are deleted. Therefore you can get a problem with your disc capacity, during playing several audio and video files. In this case please delete older files in the temporary directory of your browser.

Ghostview and Ghostscript

GSview and Ghostscript are used to view postscript files on your display.

They are available at the
University of Wisconsin Web Server
.

If you do not have enough space to use Ghostview, you can use Ghostscript alone, but it has no graphical user interface. When Ghostview is run from Windows for the first time, it will reconfigure itself and create a Program Group. It will also ask if associations for PS and EPS files should be made.

MPEG-Player

The MPEG Player NET TOOB allows you to view MPEG files on your display.

This program is available for Win 3.x and for Win95 / Win NT

The software works as a plugin for viewing streaming MPEG's in Netscape and Explorer or as a separate program. Please note : This is a shareware application ! By installing the software you accept a personal and non-transferable license to use the NET TOOB (TM) "software". AUDIO-Player

Cool Edit works with over a dozen different audio formats including au or wav and pcm, and has extensive editing capabilities. The unregistered version lets you use only 2 of the advanced capabilities at a time, which is still very nice.

This program is available for Win 3.x and for Win95 / Win NT

We recommend you to use this application as a standard for playing audio files (*.au) in your Web-Browser, because you can have some problems with the windows audio player. Please change the Helper Application for the MIME-Type audio/basic in the Preferences (options) in your Web-browser.
