Currently the best price/performance ratio for computing
hardware is obtained in "commodity'' PCs. For the pupose of event
reconstruction in the ZEUS experiment at HERA a farm of INTEL PENTIUM
processor-based commercial PCs running the Windows/NT operating system
has been set up to replace a Silicon Graphics Multiprocessor
system. Around 1 Million lines of FORTRAN code have been ported to the
system. Experiences with porting the software, integrating the controls
into the existing UNIX environment, and running the full system are
reported.
