Welcome to the website of the Helmholtz Young Investigator Group

"Top as Key to LHC Physics" is a junior researchers' group in experimental particle physics. The group is situated at Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY), Germany's national particle physics laboratory, a member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers, and works in close collaboration with Humboldt University in Berlin.

The group participates in the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider LHC at CERN, the European Laboratory for Particle Physics. The group is embedded in the DESY ATLAS group. The focus of the group is on searches for new physics with top quarks at the highest available energies and on operating and developing silicon detectors.

DESY, HU Berlin, and TU Dresden are offering PhD scholarships via the DFG Research Training Group ("Graduiertenkolleg") 1504 Mass, Spectrum, Symmetry. We also have job openings for bachelor and master/Diplom students.
